Paula Häiväoja (1929–2011) was Kalevala’s first female Head of Design. She graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki with a degree in art and design in 1953 and started as a designer at Kalevala three years later. Häiväoja worked as the Head of Design from 1963 to 1967, when she became a freelance designer and opened her own studio.
